One difference worth knowing. The file utilities here never send your file anywhere. This one has to — removing a background needs a model that cannot run in a browser. Your photo goes to a processing provider, is used for that one job, and is not stored by us afterwards — no copy, and no record of the image. What fal keeps is covered by their own privacy policy. If you would rather nothing left your device, the resizer and the rest of the browser tools are unaffected.

Is it really free?
You get a few free runs a day with no account. After that, removing a background costs credits — because unlike the resizer or the cropper, this one runs a real AI model on a server and that costs us money every time. The browser-only tools in the directory stay unlimited.
Is my photo uploaded?
Yes. Removing a background needs a model that cannot run in your browser, so the image is sent to a processing provider. No copy of it is kept, and nothing about the image itself is recorded — the only thing logged is a count of runs against a salted, same-day hash of your IP address, which is how the free allowance is counted. If you would rather nothing left your device at all, the resizer, cropper, converter, compressor and collage maker all run locally.
What do I get back?
A PNG with a transparent background, so you can drop the subject straight onto whatever you are making. Preview it before you download to see exactly what was cut.
Does it work on hair and fur?
Better than most. The model behind it is built for exactly that — fine edges are where cheap background removers fall apart. Complex backgrounds and low-contrast edges are still the hard cases.
Why did it fail on my photo?
Usually a photo with no clear subject, or one so large it timed out. Very large images are scaled down before processing, so size alone is rarely the cause. Trying again works more often than it should.
Can I do a batch?
Not yet. One image at a time.
