AI video reframe.
Change the shape, keep the shot.
By Yuvraj SinghFounder, LeaxorUpdated
Leaxor's Reframe changes a video's aspect ratio without cropping. MiniMax H3 Max paints in the picture that was never filmed, so nothing gets cut off. Clips up to 5 minutes, sound kept, 15 seconds for $2.40.
Vertical to horizontal: a real before and after
The clip on the left is a 540×960 vertical render from our own sample reel. The one on the right is what Reframe returned at 16:9, 768p, with the prompt left empty. It's the only run published here so far, so it shows one direction: tall to wide.
fal reports where it put the original: a 432-pixel-wide column starting 456 pixels in, inside a 1344×768 frame. Everything either side of that column, about 68% of the width, was generated. It cost 10 credits ($1.00) at today's rate.
It came back 42 seconds after we sent it. A 66-second clip at 480p, run the same day, took 5 minutes 13seconds, so budget a few minutes per minute of footage. You don't have to wait on the page; it lands in your library.
Reframe, crop or regenerate?
There are three ways to get a clip into a new shape. Reframe is the only one that keeps both the whole picture and the original footage.
| Method | What happens to the picture | Your footage | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crop or auto reframe | The edges are cut away | Kept, but less of it | Free in any editor |
| AI reframe | New picture is painted around the edges | Kept, timing and sound included | $2.40 for 15 seconds at 768p |
| Regenerate | A whole new render in the new shape | Replaced: a new take, not your shot | A new clip on one of 23 models |
Crop when the subject sits in the middle and the edges don't matter. Reframe when they do: two people side by side, a product with text on it, a landscape you shot for its width. And if the shot itself was the problem, make a new one in the right shape with the AI video generator.
7 aspect ratios, and where each one goes
Any of these, from any starting shape. The one your clip is already in is the one you can't pick. Turning a horizontal video vertical for YouTube Shorts is the trip most people make.
| Ratio | Good for |
|---|---|
| 16:9 | YouTube, a laptop screen, most TVs |
| 9:16 | Shorts, Reels, TikTok, Stories |
| 1:1 | Square feed posts and ad placements |
| 4:3 | Presentations, older footage, a classic TV look |
| 3:4 | Tall portrait posts that stop short of full screen |
| 21:9 | Cinema-wide trailers, website headers, banners |
| 9:21 | Extra-tall banners and sidebar placements |
How to change a video's aspect ratio without cropping
Reframe is one of the 7video jobs in Leaxor, an AI image and video generator; for stills at the ratio you need, there's the AI image generator. Three steps, and the second one is the only decision that matters.
- 1. Pick the clip. Open Reframe in the video menu and upload a clip of up to 5 minutes, or pick one you've already made in Leaxor. Every finished clip also has a Reframe button.
- 2. Pick the shape. Choose one of 7 aspect ratios. The one your clip already has is hidden, so you can't pay to change nothing.
- 3. Say what goes in the new space, or don't. Leave the prompt empty and the model describes your clip to itself and carries the scene on. Write one if you want the new edges to show something specific.
What it costs
Reframe is priced on the length of the clip you hand it, because that's exactly how long the result is. There's nothing to pick but the resolution.
Past 15 seconds, MiniMax H3 Max works through the clip in overlapping windows and every overlap is rendered too, so a long clip costs a little more per second than a short one. The price is on the button before you render, and credits are pay-as-you-go with no subscription.
| Clip length | 480p | 768p |
|---|---|---|
| 15 seconds | $1.50 · 15 credits | $2.40 · 24 credits |
| 1 minute | $9.00 · 90 credits | $14.40 · 144 credits |
| 5 minutes | $45.00 · 450 credits | $72.00 · 720 credits |
What it won't do
- Go past 768p.The model can upscale to 1080p, but fal doesn't publish a price for it yet, and we don't sell what we can't price.
- Take more than 5 minutes. Longer videos need cutting into parts first.
- Promise the original pixels. fal's own API documentation says the result isn't guaranteed to match the source pixels exactly, because the clip is redrawn into the new frame rather than pasted in. Timing and sound survive; the finest detail may not.
- Know what was off-screen.The new edges are a guess that fits the scene. If a real person or a brand logo should be standing just out of shot, the model won't know that.
AI video reframe FAQ
How do I change a video's aspect ratio without cropping it?
Make the frame bigger instead of smaller. An AI reframe puts your whole video on a canvas of the new shape and generates the picture around it, so nothing is cut off. On Leaxor that's the Reframe mode: upload the clip, pick one of 7 shapes, and render.
Can AI turn a horizontal video into a vertical one?
Yes. Pick 9:16 and the model adds new picture above and below your footage. It's the hardest direction: a 16:9 clip fitted into a 9:16 frame covers only 32% of it, so about 68% of every frame is generated. The sample on this page goes the other way, vertical to wide; we haven't published a wide-to-vertical run yet.
What's the difference between auto reframe and AI reframe?
Auto reframe, the tracking kind built into video editors, crops. Adobe says its Auto Reframe keeps the most important part of the action in the frame, which means the rest of it goes. AI reframe outpaints: it keeps the whole original and generates new picture to fill the new shape. Cropping is free and loses image; outpainting costs a render and invents image.
What is video outpainting?
Outpainting is generating what lies beyond the edges of an existing image. For video it has to be done for every frame, and the new area has to move with the camera and stay consistent from one frame to the next, which is why it needs a video model rather than an image one.
Does reframing keep the sound and the length?
Yes. The output runs exactly as long as the source and the audio track is carried over. The footage itself is redrawn into the new frame by MiniMax H3 Max, so fine detail can differ slightly from the original, but the timing doesn't move.
Is there a free AI video reframe?
Not on Leaxor. There's no free tier and no free credits. A 15-second clip costs $1.50 at 480p, and the price shows before you render. Credits are pay-as-you-go and never expire.
