Frequently asked questions
Which format should I pick?
WebP is the safe modern default: smaller than JPG at the same quality, and it keeps transparency. Use JPG when something old will not take WebP, PNG when you need it lossless, and AVIF when you want the smallest file and know the destination supports it.
Does converting to PNG lose quality?
No. PNG is lossless, so converting to it never discards detail. Converting to JPG, WebP or AVIF does, which is what makes them smaller, and it is why there is a quality control for those three and not for PNG.
Why did my transparent background turn white?
JPG has no transparency. Converting to it has to put something behind your image, and white is the least surprising choice. Convert to PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser using your own device. Nothing is sent to us.
Why can't I convert to AVIF?
Not every browser can write AVIF, only read it. If yours cannot, the tool says so rather than handing you a file with the wrong contents inside.
