Short answer: the best AI tools for content creators in 2026 are the ones that cover a step you'd otherwise pay someone for. Mine are ChatGPT or Claude for scripts, Leaxor for images and video, ElevenLabs for voice, CapCut for editing and Canva for thumbnails. That's the whole stack, and it's short on purpose.
Quick flag: Leaxor is mine. It's on this list because it's the tool I built for the visuals step, and I've tried to be as blunt about it as about the others.
Most "best AI tools" lists I've seen run to thirty entries, a lot of them the same chatbot with a different logo. I'd rather tell you the five I actually open, what each one is for, and where each one costs more than it says.
My AI content creation stack at a glance
| Tool | Job | Free to start? | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT / Claude | Ideas, scripts, titles | Yes | The first draft of everything |
| Leaxor | Images, video clips, finished videos | No, pay per use | From $0.10 an image |
| ElevenLabs | Voiceover | Yes, limited | Commercial licence needs a paid plan |
| CapCut | Editing, captions | Yes | Where the clips become a video |
| Canva | Thumbnails, channel art, layouts | Yes | Templates and text on images |
They line up with the order a video gets made: idea, visuals, voice, edit, thumbnail.
ChatGPT and Claude: scripts, titles, ideas
Who it's for
Everyone. They're best at the first draft of a script, a dozen title options, and the dull rewrite where a 70-second script has to become 45. Use whichever you prefer; for this kind of work they're closer than the arguments online suggest.
Setup friction
None.
Hidden costs
The free tiers are limited, and the paid ones add up if you pay for both. Claude Pro is $20 a month billed monthly, or $17 a month billed yearly, per Anthropic's pricing page. The bigger cost is sameness. A script straight out of a chatbot sounds like every other script straight out of a chatbot, so treat it as a draft and rewrite it in your own words.
Leaxor: images and video
Who it's for
Creators who need pictures and footage they don't have. It does three jobs: images on 47 models, short clips on 23 video models (Kling, Veo, Seedance and the rest), and finished videos from a topic, with the script, narration and captions done for you.
Setup friction
You need an account and credits before you make anything. There's no free tier, which I know puts people off. Credits are $0.10 each, the minimum top-up is 50, and they don't expire. The full walkthrough, including what it's bad at, is in my Leaxor review.
Hidden costs
Choice is the cost. With 23 video models it's easy to spend an afternoon trying all of them on one shot. An image is $0.10 and up, a clip starts at $0.10, and a finished video on the Standard tier is $3.00, so rerolls are cheap one at a time and add up across a week. I wrote up which video model I use for which job to save you the afternoon.
ElevenLabs: voiceover
Who it's for
Anyone whose channel has a voice but not a face. It's also the voice inside Leaxor's finished videos on the Standard and Premium tiers, so if you use those you're already hearing it.
Setup friction
Low. Pick a voice, paste a script, download. Designing your own voice takes longer, and it's worth doing once so your channel doesn't sound like everyone else's default narrator.
Hidden costs
The licence. The free plan gives you 10,000 credits a month, but on ElevenLabs' pricing page the commercial licence shows up as a feature of the paid plans, not the free one. If the channel is monetised, budget for a paid plan.
CapCut: editing and captions
Who it's for
Whoever assembles the video. Clips from the generator, a voiceover from ElevenLabs, music, captions: CapCut is where they become one file. Auto captions alone justify it for short-form.
Setup friction
The editor is easy to pick up. The AI features are spread across several menus rather than in one place.
Hidden costs
Some features sit behind a paid plan, and which ones changes. CapCut's site lists the tools; check what's free in your region before you build a workflow on one.
Canva: thumbnails and channel art
Who it's for
Anyone making thumbnails. Generate the picture with an image model, then put the title on it in Canva, so the words sit exactly where you want them.
Setup friction
Almost none, which is the point of it.
Hidden costs
The best templates and the AI features lean on the paid plan; see Canva's pricing. And templates are shared by millions of people, so a thumbnail built straight from one looks like it.
AI video tools for YouTubers
Of the five, two make or shape video. Here's how I'd split them on a YouTube channel:
- Faceless Shorts: a finished video from a topic does the whole job. That's Leaxor's AI video maker.
- Shots you can't film: B-roll, a product spinning, an establishing shot. Generate the clip in the AI video generator, often from a still made in the AI image generator.
- Footage you filmed: CapCut, with AI for captions and clean-up. Generation doesn't help here.
- Thumbnails: an image model that spells, or Canva on top of one. My thumbnail generator comparison tested which models render text cleanly.
Leaxor also has free tools for the jobs around a video, like the YouTube title generator and the thumbnail checker. They need an account but don't cost credits.
What I don't use AI for
Picking the topic. Every tool on this list will happily give you a hundred ideas, and they'll be the same hundred it gives everyone else. Knowing what your viewers will click is still the job, and it's the part none of these tools does for you.
Don't let a chatbot have the last word on a script either. Let it write the draft; write the hook yourself.
How the stack fits together
- Pick the angle yourself.
- Draft the script with ChatGPT or Claude, then rewrite the first two lines.
- Make the visuals in Leaxor, or let its finished-video mode do the visuals, voice and captions in one go.
- If you made clips separately, voice it in ElevenLabs and assemble it in CapCut.
- Thumbnail: image from an image model, text in Canva.
If step 3 does the whole video, steps 4 and most of 5 disappear, which is the trade I'd weigh first. The money side of that trade is in my post on AI video against hiring an editor.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best AI tools for content creators in 2026?+
The five I use: ChatGPT or Claude for scripts and titles, Leaxor for images and video, ElevenLabs for voiceover, CapCut for editing and captions, and Canva for thumbnails and layouts. Between them they cover every step from idea to upload.
What AI video tools should YouTubers use?+
For generating video, a tool that runs several models so you can pick per shot; Leaxor runs 23, including Kling, Veo and Seedance. For editing what you've generated or filmed, CapCut. For faceless channels that want a finished video from a topic, a pipeline that writes, narrates and captions it for you.
Are there free AI tools for content creators?+
Yes. ChatGPT, Claude, CapCut, Canva and ElevenLabs all have free tiers, with limits. ElevenLabs' free plan doesn't list a commercial licence, so check before you monetise a voice from it. Leaxor has no free tier; it's pay per use from $0.10 a credit, with free creator tools that need an account.
Which AI tool is best for YouTube thumbnails?+
Generate the image with an AI image model, then lay out the text in Canva or generate it with a model that spells. I tested which image models render thumbnail text cleanly in my thumbnail generator comparison.
Do I need all of these AI tools?+
No. If you make faceless videos, a pipeline that does script, visuals, voice and captions in one go replaces four of the five. Keep a chatbot for ideas and Canva for thumbnails.
